The Parthenon
There were two things our tour guide, Constantine, really wanted us to know as we visited the Acropolis: The Parthenon was built by the citizens of Athens rather than slaves (i.e., as in Rome), and the Elgin marbles belong in Greece.
The caryatids on the Erechtheion
These statues of korai, or Greek maidens, support the south porch at the Erechtheion, also known as the Erechtheum.

The flag flies over a viewpoint at the northern end of the Acropolis.
A view of Athens from the Acropolis
After one climbs to the summit at the Acropolis, one gets an amazing view of Athens below. This perspective shows the Temple of Hephaestus in the foreground, just north of the Acropolis.
A fishing boat on the shore at Mykonos
While this boat is a prop advertising a local taverna, the fishermen of Mykonos are still busy, particularly during the high season in the summers, catching fish to feed the tourists that flock to the island to party on its beaches.
The monastery at Filerimos
Built by the Knights of Malta in the 14th century, this monastery and its grounds were renovated and rebuilt in the 1920s.
Ruins of the ancient town of Ialyssos
A much earlier settlement, called Ialyssos, had its own Acropolis here on Rhodes.
