The Parthenon

It is easier to celebrate ancient buildings in Athens as many are together on the hill at the Acropolis. Our guide was quite proud of his city's heritage, and he emphasized over and over that a) these buildings were created by citizens and not by slaves, and b) the Elgin marbles (the collection of statues from the front of the Parthenon) belong in Greece, not England.

This city symbolizes a culture of beauty, a celebration of architecture, and the art of good food.
